Waking up to a beautiful, fresh snowfall was a treat earlier in the week. However, in true New York City fashion, it only took a day for it to melt into a horrible sludge.
As the snow melts, small lakes form at every intersection, mushy piles of black slush accumulate on the sidewalks and the city looks absolutely dreary.
Laura and I were determined to avoid sitting inside all day, so we made it a day of shopping and exploration. In an effort to avoid blending in with the drab skies, we injected some color into our outfits.
Getting something to eat was first on our agenda (as it usually is). We tried out a few of the croissants at Mille-feuille Bakery here in the Village.
Tiny droplets of rain tried to scare us off, but we continued through a very wet Washington Square Park and onto Fifth Avenue, where we popped into a few of our favorite shops.
We always love the J. Crew, especially the new men’s shop, whereas the combination of bright colors and patterns in shops like Kate Spade and Paul Smith made it seem like summertime was just around the corner.
With the right colors, summertime is just a state of mind.

I love your blog. I am back in Dallas now but lived my entire 20s in NYC – I miss it so! I’m REALLY loving that Captain bracelet. I don’t suppose it’s available to purchase anywhere now?
That bracelet is actually one of a kind! I grew up riding horses and it’s a common thing for young girls to get bracelets with the names of their horses or ponies on them. Captain was one of my first horses and Ryan has since adopted the bracelet, more than 10 years later.
But you can definitely have your own made with whatever you want it to say—here’s a link. -LR
These photos are so magical. Love this blog. So glad we found it.
