This winter, while wandering around our neighborhood, we couldn’t help but notice how many of the old rowhouses have interesting door knockers.
From newly renovated homes to doors that look like they’ve been untouched for decades, the collection of unique knockers ranges from whimsical and fun to striking and commanding. One of the more common knockers in the neighborhood is a woman’s hand, adorned with a ring. We initially thought these were all the same, but upon closer inspection, each knocker sports different details—different bracelets, ring styles, and even hand sizes and shapes.
Makes us wish we had more than just a buzzer in our building.

Gorgeous! I love old buildings and corners and gates. These door knockers are so unique.
I don’t think I’ve ever paid much attention to door knockers — right now the row house number are what catch my eye as I wander my new neighborhood. I do love these knockers you’ve found!
I love the doors where I live in Amsterdam. Animal knobs galore!
We love taking a look at all of these doors in New York! We can’t help but wonder if they were left there out of admiration for them or just because the current residents did not want to replace them.
