This juvenile Mourning Dove has been keeping me company lately. Ryan and I have grown accustomed to hearing the comforting calls of her parents, who are typically perched on the neighboring fire escape, so we were happy to see one of their offspring show up outside our bedroom window one day.
I don’t know how much longer she will stick around, but I’ve enjoyed seeing her as I work at my desk, especially considering that she’s quite brave and doesn’t seem concerned at all when I open the window or point my long camera lens at her.

i bet iggy loves that.
That’s so sweet! I love birds, especially when they make nests and raise their young near our house. One year a robin family lived above our front porch. I had a great time leaving mealworms out for them to eat. I have to say, though, that mourning doves aren’t the brightest birds out there. I would argue it’s not bravery that allows her to sit there while you take her picture.
lovely.
