On Wednesday night Laura and I walked over to the new West Village location of Saturdays Surf—the hybrid surf shop/clothing boutique turned espresso bar—for their opening reception. We’re already huge fans of their SoHo location, so having one even closer makes our mornings a lot easier.
Located on the quiet corner of Waverly Place and Perry Street in the space that formerly housed DOMA Cafe, the new spot is almost exactly the same as its big brother in SoHo, with one exception: there’s no backyard.
However, the new store is quite open and airy with a big bay window up front and numerous benches outside to lounge around. We’ve already had a few lattes out front with Iggy and discovered that the place still has the same laid-back vibe we’ve come to love from the Crosby Street shop.
Apparently, everyone else loves those laid-back vibes, as the party was massive. PBRs replaced the usual espresso shots as hordes of people who could have just as easily been at a beach house browsed the label’s board shorts, button-downs and T-shirts. Like any good chill party, there were even a few dogs in attendance.
While we still like Saturdays best on a quiet morning for two, it’s a place we don’t mind sharing with a couple hundred people while welcoming them to the neighborhood.
